Foundation Programme
Jangchub Ling’s Foundation Programme is a great next-step after attending our regular, weekly classes.
“We may have received many different teachings from many different teachers, but we have taken in very little, just a few morsels . . . Why is this? It is because we are not studying and practicing systematically according to a specially designed spiritual program.”
- Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
NEW - Introduction to Foundation Programme
When:
Tuesday Sep 2nd, 7pm - 9pm
About:
This free session gives a practical overview of the benefits of FP and what is involved in enrolling. The session take place at the usual time of an FP class and will be attended by currently enrolled students to give you the opportunity to chat with them about their experience.
Those considering joining FP online can also attend via Zoom at the time of the class. Simply click on this link shortly before seven.
The benefits of Foundation Programme
Through studying on the Foundation Programme we learn how to eliminate our negative states of mind and how to cultivate positive states of mind. FP provides the necessary structure, guidance and support needed to make real spiritual progress. Through making measurable progress we will gain confidence in our ability to help both ourself and others find lasting peace.
The FP has many benefits, including:
a comprehensive practice through studying a whole book.
All the support needed to deepen your knowledge and experience of meditation, including the practical application of Buddha’s teachings in daily life.
A systematic and accessible presentation of the basic subjects of Mahayana Buddhism.
Ongoing discussion with classmates and the teacher.
What happens on Foundation Programme?
We start with some short prayers followed by a guided meditation on the current topic. This is followed by a teaching which explores the meaning and practical application of the text being studied. Afterwards there is paired discussion and we finish with concluding prayers to dedicate our good karma to everyone’s lasting happiness.
Every six weeks or so we have a discussion class where we explore questions from the group to help each other in our daily practice.
When is Foundation Programme?
FP is on Tuesday evenings between 7pm & 9pm.
Studying ‘Universal Compassion’.
Our current book
Universal Compassion gives a practical and uplifting explanation of how we can transform our day-to-day lives - including even the most demanding and difficult situations - into opportunities for personal and spiritual development. Ancient meditative techniques that have been tried and tested for centuries are brought alive and made relevant to our everyday experiences.
Pick up your copy in our shop or find paper, digital and audio copies online here.
Can I trial the Foundation Programme before joining?
Foundation Programme is different to our other classes in that students sign up to study a whole book. This commitment is usually for around a year.
To help people know if this is the right choice for them, as well as our Introduction to Foundation Programme classes, we offer a commitment and cost free trial of up to four weeks - there’s no need to wait for an ‘Introduction’ class, you can join at any time.
If you are interested in finding out if FP will suit you please get in touch.
Foundation Programme Online
This option is for those who would love to join FP but who are not able to attend in-person. In every other way FP Online is the same. You join online via Zoom at the same time as those attending in-person and engage in paired discussion with other online attendees at the end of class.
If you’re curious, please contact us by email.
The Teacher for Foundation Programme
These classes are led by principle teacher, Gen Kelsang Khechog.
Khechog was ordained in 2006 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. After studying for a number of years on the Teacher Training Programme at the internationally renowned Tara Kadampa Meditation Centre near Derby, Khechog was appointed as the Resident Teacher of Jangchub Ling Buddhist Centre in September 2009.
Known for his thoughtful nature, Khechog presents Buddha’s teachings with relatable clarity, showing how to connect these beautiful meditations with the realities of modern daily life.
